1. Forward Swimming Dive
Here, the diver stands on the springboard minding the edge of it. Diver faces towards the water and takes the spring jump. Forward diving also includes a run up before diving. It is the most preferable and is very common.
2. Backward Swimming Diving
Backward swimming dive is the same as that of forward. The diver stands on the edge of the springboard facing his/her back towards the water. The diver backflips and jumps into the water with a somersault. The diver acquires a little distance off the board while somersaulting to prevent colliding with it. It requires little effort as backward dives cannot have run-ups.
3. Inward Swimming Dive
It is little similar to the backward dive. The diver stands on the edge facing his/her back towards the water and makes a front flip to jump off. It again requires effort to gain distance as no run-up is taken for Inward dive as well. Earlier, this dive was known as “cutaway.”
4. Reverse Swimming Diving
This dive is similar to the forward dive. It begins by the diver facing towards the water. The diver executes a front flip towards the board and jumps in the water. This dive was known as “gainer” in the past.
5. Arm Stand Swimming Diving
It is an Arm Stand dive if it starts with a, whether backward or forward dive. This dive can include flips, rotations, twisting, and somersaults. This Swimming dive technique requires much strength and skill than others. Divers need to maintain a steady posture before jumping off the board. Divers avoid springboards for this dive style. It is so because the motion of the board does not allow the divers to hold their position.
6. Twisting Swimming Dive
Twisting can be an addition to any of the dive type except Armstand. Twisting is known to be most difficult out of all dive styles.
These are the six swimming dive styles that are preferable by the divers. Some professional divers also use synchronized diving style. This style includes the diver performing two diving styles together. This style is just a creation to show off skills to the audience.
